I also think it contributed in part to his thinking on Iraq and people often forget this. He had long before assumed liberal interventionism was the right thing. I believe he saw it as that re Iraq almost more so than any other reason. With American military 'might' he was able to secure a democracy there and justify it twofold in view of the various reports pointing to Iraq with WMD.
