(Apologies for making the very obvious joke of linking to a story about poor spelling with an example of poor spelling. I know even without checking that around 650 other bloggers will have made the exact same joke, I feel so ashamed to have wasted everybody's time)

Hmm. So that's "a better idea", is it?
The whole point behind spelling and grammar is to reduce the risk of misunderstanding, as that can lead to conflict and other ills. Dropping standards rather than raising tuition levels is a cop-out that avoids facing up to the core issue.
No-one sensible would do that.
