Meet The New Boss.

According to Political Betting the Tory lead with ICM is bigger than Labour's at this stage prior to the 1997 election. Hooray we will soon be able to kick out the authoritarian, nepotistic Labour government with an ,authoritarian nepotistic Conservative government.

It's moments like this that make me just happy to be alive at this hour.

Worse. Without a Labour government, the venom of many who are flirting with liberalism/libertarianism will be drawn. No names, but you can just see all the Cameron camp followers who'll soon be abandoning that inconvenient freedom shite.

I do hope the last 12 years have persuaded right-wingers to become more libertarian, thinking that excessive state power is excessive even if their pals wield it, but I can already foresee the next God knows how many years & I see only shite ahead.

Worrabout Massie's seeming belief that only a strong Liberal Democrat presence can provide a sane voice? I am finding it a bit persuasive, I wonder whether you would given your right-wing nature :)

Do you take a view on drugs policy in America & its likely evolution? I suppose we should be grateful for whatever we can get with this "medical" marijuana legalisation in some states. But I would be happier if the weasel words were cut out & federal laws were abandoned. States could prohibit drugs, but many wouldn't & we'd see which set a successful example.

Of course there'd be problems stopping drugs travelling from a fun-loving state to a puritan state, but then that's due to prohibition being total shite.

Unfortunately Obama's natural caution & moderation may get in the way of any strong moves. But I would be willing to bet that his private views are more liberal, as are Cameron's, for all the use that is (maybe not much).

Brute Anderson, despite being a fuckwit in general, was strong today in the Indescribablyboring on the matter.

"the weasel words" about it being for medical purposes as if that were the only valid reason. Authoritarians love pointing to ways in which people who don't have relevant illnesses are using the herb. They overlook that it counts for nothing, but I suppose it is true in the strict sense. Simply legalising would remove such an "argument".

Only on certain issues, unfortunately the SDP tendency within the Lib Dems ensures that on other issues they are as bossy or worse than the other parties.

I think the federal nature of the US provides a 3rd option, let the federal government ban drugs when they cross state lines but otherwide let individual states set their own policy.

As for medical marujana I've always thought the medicinal aspect is purely a Trojan Horse for decriminialisation. Nearly all the medical benefits can be obtained from the active incredients of cannabis without directly taking cannabis.
