Politics can be very playground at times:

The health minister, who called the Speaker a “stupid, sanctimonious dwarf”, has apologised – but only to short people in general.

I don't really object because Bercow is just that.

Oh FFS!

John Bercow says:

“Why shouldn’t we have live music in the Commons? Parliament has a chance if reconnecting with the country if it shows an interest I things that matter to people across the country.

“This is the first concert of its kind here. I suspect there will be many more in the future.

“I think this is a milestone. Parliament should be proud of its traditions and ready to glory in the beauty of its architecture and of course to continue with the litany of traditional events which we enjoy, but also ready to evolve, adapt and move on.”

Twat. I can just see him visiting schools and telling the children that he isn't one of the squares and he's a hepcat who's totally into popular beat combos like the Eurythmics and Simply Red.

Next week Speaker Bercow uses the House of Commons as a bingo hall to continue his mission to make parliament relevant to the public.

Calling Esther!

I see parliament has responded to the crisis caused by the expenses crisis by electing a Speaker who has maxed out his expenses and flipped his home.

Whilst I don't doubt that Bercow has some qualities, he is supposedly quite good on Burma and Snow White speaks highly of his and his six friends' loyalty. However he seems to have been chosen as a stitch up by Labour MPs.

The convention is that the Speaker is not challenged in the election by the other parties, and I'm sure they will honour that tradition. However an independent candidate wouldn't be so constrained and whilst Bercow is far from the worse trougher his election as Speaker makes him a symbol the problem. So if Esther Rantzen still wants to stand for parliament she should head to Buckingham.

Update: The Speaker-elect declares that he will be a "21st century Speaker", which is good news for those of us who were worried about the possibility of a time traveller taking the position.

Just Defect Already.

Does anyone really doubt that if it weren't for Labour's catastrophic poll rating that John Bercow wouldn't have jumped ship already?

If not have a look at his latest offering, which is titled:

Where is the Tory Harriet Harman?

Presumably in a pot in central office, being watered twice a day. It's a call for designated victim groups to be handed Conservative constituencies, regardless of whether they want it or not. Fine, but they should start with Buckingham. To highlight the problem of 'under representation he writes:

This is illustrated by the fact that in the 39 seats with a notional Conservative majority where the sitting member is retiring or boundary changes create a new Conservative seat, only 14 successors are women and 3 are from the ethnic minorities.

Huh? So 1 in 13 candidates in the most winnable seats is an ethnic minority, I'm sure he thinks that is shocking but the proportion of 'BMEs' in the population is only around 1 in 12 or 1 in 11. This is before you even make any adjustments for age.

Accurate But Fake

John Bercow, a man so stupid that he hasn't realised that he is in the wrong party, has come up with a proposal, described here by Simon Chapman at Centre Right:

But his proposed amendment to the HFE Bill is even worse than it was described. It proposes to make it an offence to advertise information about alternatives to abortion (as well as abortion) if the presentation of that information is "likely to deceive the average person...even if the information is factually correct."

Under Bercow's proposal people could be imprisoned for telling the truth. John Bercow used to be on the very right wing of the Conservative Party and was a secretary of the Monday Club, now he is the living embodiment of the idea that when fanatics change tack they don't become reasonable moderate individuals, but instead simply becom fanatics for another cause.

I don't have strong views on abortion and am generally accepting of the description of the two sides of the dispute as pro-life and pro-choice rather than pro and anti abortion, but shouldn't members of the pro choice lobby be condemning Bercow for advocating a position that is designed to restrict pregnant women's ability to make an informed choice? He isn't pro choice he is simply an evangelist for abortion.
