MPs- Beyond Parody

A group of female MPs has protested at proposals to ban second homes within commuting distance from Parliament on the grounds that this would put them at risk of attack.
Pretend for a moment that this isn't a brazen attempt to play victimhood poker in order to keep their snouts in the trough.

If they are serious then implicit in this argument is that London's transport system is too dangerous for women to use, but that it is only a problem when MPs are at risk.

Er, but most members of the public aren't as hated as most members of parliament. Do you not watch the news?

I don't see why a targetted attack because they were MPSs would be likely to affect female MPs specifically. And the language they use doesn't suggest that they are thnking of anything beyond general crime:

""They said that late votes on Mondays and Tuesdays meant some MPs would not reach their constituencies until after midnight, and would have to alight at unstaffed stations.

“The risk of mugging or sexual assault is obvious,” the letter added.

They are too dim to see that they've opened the door to this though...

Are you seriously suggesting that they need their second homes so that they can continuie to hide behind the walls and never go out?

If someone's stalking a female MP (and looking at them, it'd have to be with violence in mind, rather than sex) they can do it when they go to the shops, to the gym, to bridge evenings, just as well as when they commute.

Feeble. Very feeble.

We're not doing very well on our mutual jokes, are we?

At 6:41 in the morning any attempt at humour more subtle than clown shoes is likely to pass me by.

Lots of things are only dangerous enough for MPs.

For example, the new ContactPoint database for children across the entire UK will not include the details of celebrities' or MP's children. Surely if the database was safe, they'd have nothing to worry about?....

I think we should not have women MPs then.

oh. so they are going to lobby for 'no women is to work after dark or miles away from home' because they run the same risk then, are they ?

Really ? Don't they know the 'official' stats show that crime has fallen by around a third since 1997 ? And Home Office/Justice Ministry stats are beyond reproach aren't they ?

How good of the Blair Babes to put themselves in the driving seat over the 'moral panic' on 'rising crime'.Move over, Daily Mail readers!
