Super Injunctions

Ryan G**** is suing Twitter over revealing his affair with Imogen Thomas. I don't get this, if Twitter hadn't been served with an injunction then how could they be breaching it by claiming that R*** Giggs cheating on his wife.

The problem with these kind of injunctions is that by protecting his privacy it impinges on the right of the other party to freely talk about what they have done. Doing that requires an exceptional reason and protecting someone cheating on their wife is not worth it.

The arrest of Dominique Strauss Kahn also highlight why preventing the press reporting on the affairs of rich and powerful men is a bad idea. Without assuming that he is guilty of the crime he is being charged with- it is clear that his "private life" which the French press could not report, involved serially predatory behaviour against women- which is surely a very public matter.

Super Injunctions.

The former Big Brother "star" Imogen Thomas has been named as the woman who had an affair with a married footballer. It seems terribly unfair that he can, in getting an injunction, simultaneously portray her as a slapper whilst protecting him from being outed as a tabloid love rat.

Still she is apparently moving on with life and pursuing a music career- she's been doing gigs in the North West for some time already apparently.

Someone down the pub told me that.

The New Jade Is A US Senator!

The late Jade Goody (pbuh) was mocked for thinking that East Anglia was abroad but apparently US Senator Barbara Boxer agrees and thinks East Anglia is in the United States. I assume that is what she believes because otherwise she is claiming the right for the USA to investigate and prosecute offences that occur in the UK:
Senator Boxer reacts to the 'climategate' question on leaked emails that appear to suppress the scientific process of peer review, saying hackers should face criminal prosecution.
.....
"We may well have a hearing on this, we may not. We may have a briefing for senators, we may not," Boxer said. "Part of our looking at this will be looking at a criminal activity which could have well been coordinated."
I visited the UEA campus in Norwich about 20 years ago, my abiding memory of the place is that there are an awful lot of rabbits and hares running about.

Priorities.

Labour- Investigate Celebrity Big Brother!
COMMONS Leader Jack Straw today encouraged media watchdogs to launch an immediate investigation into alleged racism on Celebrity Big Brother.

Mr Straw said Ofcom had the power to act now and warned it would be "risible" to wait until the show finished.
Labour- Don't Investigate The Sale Of Peerages!
Senior Labour figures were quick to criticise Scotland Yard's tactics after officers arrived at the home of Ruth Turner at 6.30am on Friday.

Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell and former cabinet colleague David Blunkett both said they were "bewildered" and others accused the police of "theatrics"

Jade Goody- Worse Than Hitler?

Big Brother's Jade Goody is it seems world renowned as racist bully because of her behaviour towards Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty. Effigies have been burnt. Peter Briffa is maintaining the News of the World CBB blog which is worth a read if you are interested in the programme (which shamefully I am). One aspect which I find bizarre is the debates about whether the bullying is racially motivated or not, surely that is a side issue at best, would a non racial motive make this kind of bully less repellant? I sincerely hope not. Meanwhile here is one of the Jade effigies being scorched:
