I'm not the only one who has irrational hatreds. Regarding Ranting Stan's hatred of broadcasters who affect a dodgy faux French accent when pronouncing French words, the worst thing is they the French accent even if the subject isn't French. So for example General Pinochet was aloways pronounced as "Pinoshay" despite the clear presence of a 't', which is pronounced in the Spanish language.
So they are both pretentious and ignorant.

Ta for link. I never knew that about Pinochet, so excellent point. Interestingly, nobody referred to those rockets that the French sold to the Argies as "Exocays".
According to wikipedia, which I'm inclined to trust in this instance, Pinochet was of French extraction on his father's side. It certainly looks more like a French name than a Spanish one.
So I think I'll go on saying Pinoshay. Pretentious? Moi?
Thankfully, the uncertainty vanishes for Boris Johnson's whimsically conceived IRA hand grenade expert "Pin O'Shea".
