Egypt shouldn’t be allowed democracy because it will be bad for Israel whom we must support as it is the only democracy in the Middle East.

And it might lead to a war which might put up the price of petrol.

Surely, "better the devil you know than the devil you don't".

Seriously, who makes your argument?

I'm pretty confident Israel can take care of itself, unhindered as they are by any need to kowtow to the UN...

Presumably you are playing devils advocate?
Everybody should be allowed one or more attempts at demoracy, even if, as in Gaza, the 'enemy' wins.

Anon 11:17- I've been discussing this at another website where I'm sure some of the people arguing against the protests have previously invoked "Israel is the only democracy" line.

Julia- Israel would do better against a conventional army like Egypt's than against terrorist organisations who hide among civilians.

Banned- I'm being mildly facaetious. Democracy is generally a good thing, if Palestinians elect Hamas then there are consequences of course but Hamas are hardly more dangerous than before they were elected.

Peter Hitchens made an even more remarkable argument about it, adding that he regretted the liberation of Eastern Europe in 1989 because it has led to the enslavement of the UK in 2011.

The problem is that it is no democracy coming - it's hardcore Islamism.
