Obama is also part of a long tradition on the left of being for the working class in the abstract, or as people potentially useful for the purposes of the left, but having disdain or contempt for them as human beings.Karl Marx said, "The working class is revolutionary or it is nothing." In other words, they mattered only in so far as they were willing to carry out the Marxist agenda.
Fabian socialist George Bernard Shaw included the working class among the "detestable" people who "have no right to live." He added: "I should despair if I did not know that they will all die presently, and that there is no need on earth why they should be replaced by people like themselves."
Sounds very familiar.
Obama has been lucky so far that his novelty as the first serious black candidate for the office of President of the United States has caused people to overlook just how wearisomely familiar his brand of faded radical chic mixed with elitism is. His ideas are not new and they have been tested to destruction by the likes of Carter, Johnson and innumerable governors and mayors.

Another example of socialist exclusivity and contempt for the common people is Lord Snape's indignation that the Speaker's wife should be expected not to spend £4,000 of taxpayers' money to go shopping. Good Lord - she might meet some plebs!
Michael Martin's friends have based there defence of him on his humble working class origins so it is a pretty breathtaking excuse.
If they elect him, particularly in the light of the NAAC which takes over the advisory function in America in March, 2009, it spells trouble for America.
