Least worst alternative I guess.

"ConDem" LOL

While it is good to see a Tory Government in power again it is not the Tory party that once was. Dave is Tory Lite, in hoc to a party whose sole aim is to introduce electoral reform with a view to their own advantage.
The reform that is needed is not how we elect our MPs but how they behave once we have done so.

Personally I would have preferred Nick 'rentboy' Clegg to have formed a sorry administration with Labour and watch it go down in flames within a few months to be replaced by a re-energised Conservatives Government that had returned to its core values.

Agreed.

If it was a majority government then the balance of opinion of the back benchers might have pulled Cameron to the right but in coalition with the Lib Dems this will not happen.

It all seems very formalised. Do you think the idea - perhaps longer in the running than the last five days - is to stuff the Labour party, destroy the Tory right and create a new middle party? Or is it just expediency?

Isn't that the reverse of what Blair wanted to do with Labour in 1997, join with the Lib Dems and leave Old Labour on the sidelines?

I think a lot of Cameron's people would like the idea of that but I expect they were assuming that they would win big up until a couple of months ago so they couldn't really have planned it.

I for one am delighted that the Liberals will have to grow up and share this poisoned chalace.
