Idiot Found On The Internet.

Tim Blair claims to have found the "stupidest person on the internet" and he seems to have a strong case in Damian Lataan. Sample quote:
Australia is one of the most racist nations in the Western hemisphere
This isn't actually the stupidest part I could have quoted, but it is the pithiest, as like many far left types he has a really turgid prose style "the notorious neocon propaganda organisation that specialises in blatant lies and anti-Palestinian propaganda." and so on.

However if someone stupider can be found feel free to nominate them.

I can't bear to read the original article, but the bit you quoted is brilliant.

"Australia is one of the most racist nations in the Western hemisphere"

There's a northern and a southern hemisphere, but no western one, for a start. And 'one of the most' doesn't specify whether that puts it in the top ten out of a hundred, or indeed the top ninety out of a hundred.

I fear there are all too many...

Ive certainly seen a similar "America is the most racist state on earth" piece and a "Britain is the most repressive country" article and so on etc etc

Mark- Western Hemisphere is often used as a description of the Americas, although obviously East & West are prely artificial splits depending on where the meridian is drawn.

Anon- Yes, I actually think that he saw the USA being described as "the most racist nation in the Western hemisphere" and parroted it about Australia without actually thinking where Australia is.

The "Western Hemisphere" as a concept has existed since at least The Monroe Doctrine of 1823. Even if the text would seem to only mention "this hemisphere".

I couldn't bear to read it either.

The combination of DaveSpartist politics & an Aussieblokeish demeanour is pretty offputting I agree, but he just seems to be another bogstandard 'antiracist' (but with a sharp eye for shafting antipodean Zionist blowhards).

A few minutes surfing came up with a much better candidate than Blair's- and he's closer to home.

Note the spelling howler in the post's title, and the correction of another howler by a sympathetic reader. Mr Sellwood seems nice enough (at least he's into Cricket) but Einstein he ain't !

There's a certain glory in it being Tim Blair who has discovered the 'stupidest man on the internet'.

It's metaphor for the Western world.

I was going to quote the bit where you don't know what a metaphor is, so I'm glad you've saved me the bother.

Damian Lataan said...

A metaphor 'is a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance', ...
In this case it refers to nations like Australia and New Zealand that, while not literally being in the Western hemisphere are considered to be metaphorically part of it since both nations consider themselves 'Western' or being part of what is known as 'the West'.

One of the main characteristics of your average right-wing blogger - apart from his or her utter stupidity and monumental ignorance - is their penchant to be pedantic in order to avoid and deflect discussion or debate. Mark Wadsworth falls neatly under this banner of stupidly ignorant while Ross, who thinks 'I've parrotted about Australia without actually thinking where Australia is' displays both complete stupidity on account of not having worked out that I live in Australia and ignorance for not knowing that Australia is metaphorically part of the Western hemisphere.

Are you under the impression that by becoming the most boring man on the internet you will cease to be the most stupid?

Is Guatemala in the Western Hemisphere?
